Chelsea coach Enzo Mariska appeared at a press conference to discuss with the media the match on Sunday against Crystal Palace in the first round of this season's Premier League.
On Colwill's ACL injury, the coach said: "He is well now but we know he is going to be out a long time and that will be hard for us. We know how important he was for us last season, and the way we intend to play he is crucial. Now he is not there anymore, so we will attempt to explore a unique one.
On the prospect of signing a new centre-back replacement, he added: "We look for an internal solution but I think that the club knows my position on that. "Right now the only one who can do that perfectly is Tosin Adarabioyo, but we will see what happens.
We have the Premier League and Champions League, so we need people who can adapt to that. β [Yuriel] Hato has never played together in this position, but it does not matter because he is a defender. With Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana dealing with physical issues, the club know what I want at the back."
Speaking of the players before Sunday's game, the Italian coach said: "Potentially Wesley Fofana may be available β we'll see. Benoit Badiashile, Romeo Lavia are in the recovery stage and Trevoh Chalobah is well."
In terms of Crystal Palace: βI think we warranted more against the two games [last term], but that is football. Itβs normal. They won the last two matches, you can see how strong they are (the UEFA Super Cup final and the Community Shield final). βCS
He added: When I came to the club, there was a different buzz around it than what you hear now. For me, I don't like β three, four months have not been there in football. I like to focus on tomorrow. Individual and collective, my aim is to become better every day.
He added: "I think we are prepared to compete in the league, but that has to be confirmed by the competition. We have a great team. But we are happy with our team, there is no question about that. It's the transfer window and anything can happen there."
